Actually, the really big difference is that if you are throwing a few bucks or quid my way, you are helping to maintain one of the longest-running film-criticism sites online. I’ve been here since 1997, I haven’t turned to listicles and clickbait, and my reviews have never been mostly plot recaps. And unlike many other sites online, this one is NOT festooned with ads and popups and sponsored posts and all that other annoying crap that has made the web downright unusable in recent years. There are no corporate or VC funds behind me. I don’t have a rich husband or a trust fund.
I’ve been doing the “please give me some money” spiel for about 20 years now, and it’s the same spiel you get from independent creative people all over the web, so there’s little point belaboring it. I will be enormously grateful if you are able to throw some cash my way, but I also understand why many people are not able to do that — money is tight all over.
