Shard London

The nearly completed skyscraper the Shard from the deck of the HMS Belfast, permanently moored in the Thames.

it’s a race to see which ugly building will be finished first — the Shard in London or The Freakdom Tower (Freedom Tower) in Manhattan…

I like the Shard too, not least because it finally taught me the orientation of London Bridge from Victoria, now that you can see it as you’re walking down Victoria Street. I’d always thought LB was in the opposite direction…(my sense of direction is terrible in a city. Remarkably good in the country, though).

ugly. uninspired and out of keeping with the area. also super expensive and destructive of historic parts of london. no love. same for the new world trade center — uninspired, designed by committee, excrutiatingly expensive and overlong construction.

Not a Shard fan, but I did go over Belfast just after Christmas – it’s been a while. Too long, in fact; recommended for anyone at a loose end in London. There’s a lot more of her open than there used to be.
