What my followers on Facebook, Twitter, and Google+ saw today:
• As Jess (who shared this with me) says, “Funny how fodder for the female gaze can only ever be served up with a generous side of laughs, eh?” Also: What a narrow range of “hot” guys! None of them really do anything for me… Rethink Breast Cancer presents: Your Man Reminder
• Crappy TV is a universal human constant… Stupid German Tricks, Wearing Thin on TV
(hat-tip for today’s links: bronxbee)

not one of those guys does a thing for me… matter of fact, i didn’t watch the whole thing… i found it a bit squick making and annoying (a nurse tripping over a tray as the guy goes by?)
I found it to be a refreshingly accurate inversion of gender portrayal, in that it displayed a very narrow range of male (/female) beauty as the ‘ideal’, used squicky humor and lampshading to justify the concept, and portrayed women (/men) as losing any higher brain functions when a ‘hottie’ passes by. I’m not saying they did it on purpose, I’m just saying they got it right even in all the wrong ways.
It’s that whole mass market thing again – the more people you appeal to, the more likely your programme is to stay on the air, so a million undiscriminating couch potatoes are more likely to be catered to than a hundred thousand people who’ve heard of Mozart. Yay democracy.
That commercial is pretty funny — they’re just trying to go viral with a good message. Nothing wrong with that :)
