Doctor Who thing: is there a connection between Clara’s dad and Pete Tyler?

Not quite sure yet if my mind should be blown. @DoctorLongscarf:

Potentially MIND-BLOWING. HUGE subtle clue in #DoctorWho Rings Of Akhaten or coincidence (HT @dontblink_123)?:

Which is accompanied by this image:

Doctor Who Rings of Akhaten Father's Day

So question is: Is the car that runs down Rose’s dad in “Father’s Day” the same one that almost runs down Clara’s dad in ”The Rings of Akhaten”? And if it is, is is merely because the BBC has a limited bunch of old cars hanging around waiting for cameos, or it Steven Moffat making a deliberate connection?

Here’s a better image of the car from “Akhaten”:

Doctor Who Rings of Akhaten

Alas, my DVD of “Father’s Day” is chosing not to play at the moment, or I’d have found a better image of the car there. Couldn’t find one via a quick Google Image search, either. Anyone got one? (The grill area on the two cars looks different to me.)

What do you think?

Looks pretty different to me: see frame-grab at http://firedrake.org/roger/images/neh793w.jpg (MaryAnn, you’re welcome to take this for ff.com).

The first car looks like a Vauxhall Cavalier Mark 1 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vauxhall_Cavalier#Mark_I_.281975.E2.80.9381.29, Hatchback model compare this image => http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Cavalier_Coupe.jpg to the one of RogerBW) and the second car looks like a Morris Marina (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morris_Marina, especially this one, though the grill cover is slightly different => http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:1976.morris.marina.arp.jpg)

So definitely not the same car, though the color is similar. These cars where designed and produced around the same time, so the fact that they look alike isn’t that remarkable.

So unfortunately (or fortunately, if you don’t like these sort of tenuous connections) there is link between these two people.

I was amazed that Clara’s dad wasn’t saved by a piano dropping on the Morris Marina (Top Gear inside joke => http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uhr-Zi4ozng)!

Not the same car – the car in ‘Fathers Day’ has black plastic wing mirrors and square headlights, and the car in the ‘Rings of Akhaten’ episode has round headlights and metal wing mirrors.

ETA: and also, I am blind. I noticed the shape of the headlights and the wing mirrors, but not the fact that the headlights on the second car are set in a big black area across the whole front of the car (with an inset of the car colour) and the first car has not black. New eyes, please?

Any buddy notice the two different fonts (the 3s) on the latest episodes car’s license plate? Seems really odd.

The latter two are in the standard UK typeface. I can’t see any reason for the other one being different; if the BBC wanted to modify the plate for filming, I’d expect them to use that typeface again. As it stands, that’s probably not a legal plate.
