London(ish) photo of the day: Bournemouth

Bournemouth

The beach at Bournemouth, about two hours south of London by train. Weirdly, it reminded me both of Rockaway in New York and Malibu in California, which couldn’t be more different.

Even more strange is that it lies at the same latitude as Calgary in Canada, but it enjoys a much milder climate!

The whole of the UK benefits from the Gulf Stream, a wash of warm tidal waters that leads to a much warmer climate than you’d expect from a country so far north.
Because of this, we’re probably the only country in the world that will turn COLDER due to global warming.

Well, since I’m your neighbour to the east, across the North Sea, I guess that we’ll probably also experience a drop in temperature.
