Bloody Morris Dancers, bloody national embarrassment is what they are. All that Hey Nonny Noing……..needs banning.

I mean, the Spanish get Flamenco, the Argentinians, Tango, the Germans get standing around in a field with Steins of beer and slapping their knee’s whilst wearing Lederhosen (and the occasional invasion of other people’s countries),, what do the Brit’s get? Men with a beards and flowers in their hats, banging little sticks together — with BELLS!

Echhhh!

You are of course correct, the Scots, Irish or Welsh have more credibility (and better folk traditions).

There’s something missing from this picture. A Morris side that isn’t drinking?

i *like* Morris Dancers… there’s a lot of mythology and folk magic tied up in their dances. and i think men in tight pants are fun to watch. with bells on!

I too am a fan of Morris, for very similar reasons. The dancing itself can be off-putting to those unfamiliar with the practice, but the music! – the music! – turns me on. (Needless to say, I dig folk in general, English folk in particular.) (Not Celtic. Celtic’s fine but I mean English. Love it.)
