I don’t even like Star Trek and that made me happy.

I love Pegg and I love Scotty, and now they’ll be together. *sigh*
he probably can do a scottish accent (at least as well as jimmy doohan did)… but it *does* lead me to wonder — are there no young scottish actors who could do this role? i mean, i *love* simon pegg but i’m just saying is all….
Bonnie-Ann, my point exactly. I am forced to wonder if they’re going with Pegg simply because J.J. Abrams, the director, has worked with Pegg before (Mission: Impossible III) and he likes working with the same actors.
Personally, I think this whole Star Trek prequel thing is unnecessary and I am not planning to go see it when it’s released.

But can he do a Scottish accent?
I dunno, but he can do at least one killer imitation: of Michael Caine. That suggests he’s got a good ear.

Anyway, Jimmy Doohan wasn’t Scottish, either.
Now I hope the franchise can be revitalized for another 20-30 years, so Simon can really shine as Fat Scotty…
He did a passable scottish accent in an episode of Spaced, the sitcom that “launched” him, Edgar Wright, Nick Frost & co here in the UK…
I also believe it’s some form of “Peggist” payback for Ewan’s english accent in the Star Wars prequels…lol!
:-)
After Pegg’s film *Run, Fat Boy, Run* comes out later this month, Pegg’s fans will have a rejoinder for that: He’s not fat, he’s just unfit.
