She was 81. I wasn’t a fan, but she broke important ground for women in comedy. If you haven’t seen the fascinating 2010 documentary Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work (my review here), I highly recommend it. It’s available on Amazon Instant Video and Netflix in the U.S., and iTunes in the U.S., Canada, and the U.K.
When you purchase or rent almost anything from Amazon US, Amazon Canada, Amazon UK, and Apple TV, Books, and Music (globally), I get a small affiliate fee that helps support my work. Please use my links if you can! (Affiliate fees do not increase your cost.) Thank you!

Her New York Times obituary is, appropriately, hilarious:
http://www.nytimes.com/2014/09/05/arts/television/joan-rivers-dies.html?module=Notification&version=BreakingNews®ion=FixedTop&action=Click&contentCollection=BreakingNews&contentID=20118730&pgtype=Homepage&_r=0
The headline is: “Joan Rivers, a Comedian for Whom Nothing Was Too Soon or Too Sacred, Dies at 81.”
