If I’d had a baby in 1997 instead of starting a film review website, that kid would be looking at colleges now.
Instead, I’ve produced:
• 3900+ reviews (it’s tough to get an exact count, for various boring reasons)
• 15,541 posts
And you’ve all contributed:
• 73,397 comments (since commenting became available when I moved the site to Movable Type sometime in 2005-6)
Not many movie sites that started in the 90s are still around… even fewer that have been run continuously by one person. Because there aren’t many people as relentless and pig-headed as me.

Happy Anniversary!!
Here’s to relentlessness.
Here’s to pigheadedness!
Here’s to stubbornness and persistence!
Happy anniversary, MaryAnn!!!
hmmmmmmmm birthday cake…
Happy site anniversary!
Perhaps a birthday cake something like this?
Delish!
It was a different Internet 17 years ago, wasn’t it? Congratulations on sticking it out!

I was on DSL, for one.
“Comments” were the reader emails that you posted from time to time.

Happy Anniversary!
Happy anniversary!
I was introduced to your site two years after it went up. A friend of mine said something about how a reviewer called Flick Filosopher had called the movie Message in a Bottle relationship porn. I thought that was hilarious and had to read the original post.
A happy anniversary wish from me. Thanks for all your relentless work, and for continuing to write from your place of truth.
Happy Anniversary and congratulations! You are spectacularly good at what you do. Nice having you on this planet.
Happy Anniversary! Thank you for the reviews, the feminism, and the conversation.
Happy anniversary!
Happy anniversary! I only got to know the site in its early teens, but enjoyed seeing it grow up. Let’s hope you’ll find the courage (and some dough would be helpful, too) to keep up your good work.
And it was back on a Monday this year… somehow the anniversaries that fall on the original day of the week seem extra-special to me.
Congratulations!
