find more comments

The pace of commenting has picked up here so much lately that new comments are often scrolling out of that “recent comments” box on the main page in less than a day. I don’t want to make the box any bigger than it is, so instead I created a new page — right here and in the nav bar as “recent comments” — that lists the 100 most recently commented upon posts. It looks like that “recent comments” box, only much longer — the old box lists only the 20 most recently commented upon posts. This new list also includes the timestamp of the most recent comment on each post, which should make it even easier for you to pick up where you leave off if you don’t visit the site at close intervals.

This new page is currently listing posts going back two weeks (the old box goes back less than 24 hours), so unless the pace of commenting ticks up dramatically again, that should do us for a while. Of course, if commenting does pick up, I can increase the number of posts on the new page to 125, 150, whatever, without causing a major disruption (or even a minor one).

Happy commenting!

If you haven’t commented here before, your first comment will be held for MaryAnn’s approval. This is an anti-spam, anti-troll, anti-abuse measure. If your comment is not spam, trollish, or abusive, it will be approved, and all your future comments will post immediately. (Further comments may still be deleted if spammy, trollish, or abusive, and continued such behavior will get your account deleted and banned.)

You might consider that there’s room for the list in the left-hand sidebar frame below the ads… it would be convenient for the people who like to catch up with the commenting to have it there on every page, and you could then remove the existing comments box in the centre frame.

Regarding women in movies, and marketing to women audiences:

Wasn’t sure where to put this, but HOLY HELL.
