watch it: “2012: It’s a Disaster!!!”

Because I cannot get enough of razzin’ 2012 (like here):

Why aren’t the people who make the actual movies as clever as the fans who make fun of them?

Recommended by Muzz in comments — thank you, Muzz — and because, as Hank Graham also noted in comments, 2012 is going to be supplying glorious material for fan edits for years to come.

I thank this video for making me an instant fan of Michael Viner’s Incredible Bongo Band!

Also, it made me spit out my coffee laughing. “Yay spaceships? YAY SPACESHIPS!!”

Disaster Porn FTW! Ahh… I’m not expecting to come out of this movie a different person or enlightened. It just looks like good popcorn eating fantasy crap! Can’t wait!

Why would you want good popcorn eating fantasy crap instead of good popcorn eating fantasy, hm, language fails me … not-crap?

Or is it ‘crap’ because it’s not enlightening or life-changing? If we use that as the point to mark past which something is ‘crap’ or not, then is all crap created equal, or can there be good crap and bad crap?

(and then, by extension, would all enlightening or life-changing movies be good? Or is there further metrics by which finer qualities can be discerned?)

Actually, I guess, I think I take subscription with what you said, but I can’t pick out the specific issue until I ask for clarity – so what did you mean by “crap”?

(of course I’m probably overthinking a simple, off-the-cuff remark, but seriously – if it’s crap, why would you go see it?)

Now THERE’S a question of the day for you. What’s your favorite fan-edit of a trailer or part of movie, including link?

I’d start with the feel-good trailer for the Shining, but there are lots of them now, aren’t there?

Indeed you are (whenever you find yourself saying “by extension” or “by that logic” to create a tautology, you’re doing this), but that’s okay. The answer to your question is: Because sometimes the crap is fun crap!

Robot Jocks was a very, very bad movie. And very fun to watch, largely because of how bad it is! That’s just an example. But anyway — there’s crap that’s so crappy it’s just plain horrible, and then there’s crap that’s at just the right level that it can be highly enjoyable.

By the way, the youtube comments on that video are, as always, hilarious. My favorite: ‘wow, when they figure out that the long count calendar really ends in like 4700 ad they are going to be like “FUCK”‘

Yeah, cus clearly the filmmakers are so devoted to fuctual research and realism that they’ll simply be crushed to know their entire movie is based on a false premise!

Saw The Room for the first time the other night. If you like bad movies, this one’s for you. Incredible.

Hey! I remember suggesting this way back in the original ‘trailer break’ for 2012:

The Fake Trailer is totally awesome though:

*raises hand and hops up and down frantically*
Ooh, ooh, ooh, pick me, I know this one!

Because if a clever fan project turns out to not be as clever as its creator thinks it is – and a quick perusal of YouTube will show how most are not – it’s no big deal ’cause tens of millions of dollars weren’t at stake.

Big studio movies are safe because they have to be. A defunct and bankrupt studio produces even fewer clever movies than the existing studios.

Sorry, David: I must have missed it back then.

Excellent point, Rocketscience.
