poster convergence: ‘I Am Love’ and ‘The Little Mermaid’

It’d good to be the queen…
We rarely see people sitting in movie posters, perhaps because it indicates a level of inaction that it is inadvisable to suggest regarding most movies, which are supposed to be exciting and in motion.

And yet, there’s a kind of power suggested by these two seated women. Tilda Swinton is the matriarch of a powerful industrial family in turn-of-the-millenium Italy in I Am Love (official sitee; opens in the U.S. and Canada on June 18; it played in the U.K. earlier this year and is available to preorder on Region 2 DVD). And Ariel, of course, has the dopey guy wrapped around her little flipper even though she cannot speak.
