Too bad there wasn’t any air conditioned screenings today.

Weeks like this one are why I moved to an apartment with central air four years ago.

Well, that and my old place was going condo, and I wasn’t about to pay $190K for a 1BR with no parking and 35 miles from work.

It’s too awful to go out. (I’d have to get on a subway to get to a Starbucks.)

And now my Internet access is down: I’m posting this comment with my phone.

All in all, it’s been a shitty day.

O.o Is this window-based A/C or central air? Is this something your building manages or do you have to take care of it yourself?

I hear ya, the AC in my car has died for good….unless I have a spare $700 to bring it back from the dead. With this weather, getting in the car and driving anywhere means loosing buckets of potassium.

Is there an app that tells you the current going price for lemonade and ice?

Hay Soos. I feel for you, Maryann. My living-room window unit keeps freezing over so I have to turn it off for 24 hours, but at least I can go into the bedroom where the other one manages to keep it cool enough to sleep, with the overhead fan. And frankly even though the weather here hasn’t been dreadful, I haven’t been outside in two days.

Looks like we’re going to be stuck with this kind of thing for the foreseeable future – that is, years, not just this summer. So go out when you can and get yourself fans! Little, big, whatever you’ve got room for.

I don’t have AC either. I often am outdoors in strenuous conditions for my job, so my theory is that if I acclimate fully, I won’t be in such agony when I’m in Level C protective gear (basically a plastic bag aka: A Chem Tech suit with booties and gloves with a full-face respirator).

I have an exhaust fan in the window to the air chaft at one end of my apartment and one window open at the other end and everything else shut and the air just getting pulled through. Keep the shades drawn during the day. Do little heat producing activity (cooking, turing on lights). Generally it is fine. But, these last couple of days have been pretty brutal.

My son and I took cold baths immediately before going to bed, didn’t dry off and slept on beach towels on our beds.

Hope today is better for you, MaryAnn!
