the further adventures of Nigel (Wednesday)

[previous] It was a trip to London for Nigel the Charity Pig on Wednesday, mostly for two shows — a matinee and an evening — with a quick bit of touring and some visiting with friends along the way. At the Stratford-upon-Avon train station, early in the AM: Settling in for the long ride, and … more…

the further adventures of Nigel (Tuesday)

[previous] On Tuesday, it was all touring through the Cotswolds and an evening of theater: Nigel the Charity Pig had himself a stroke of luck when he ran into me. He could have been picked up by a grubby six-year-old and ended up thrown out the car window onto the side of the M40 covered … more…

the further adventures of Nigel (Monday)

[previous] Nigel the Charity Pig had a day exploring neolithic England on Monday. It began with a predawn drive to Stonehenge — a little over two hours from Stratford-upon-Avon, which included a stop for coffee along the way: Nigel is no good without his coffee in the morning. There’s a path under the road that … more…

my week at the movies: nothing

I’m in England. I’m too busy sitting in pubs and flirting with bartenders with cute accents to go to the movies. Although… I might try to see either Creation or Dorian Gray, which are new in theaters here. You’ll hear about that if I do.

At Balliol College: Oxford makes Nigel feel all literary, and he insisted … more…

the further adventures of Nigel (Saturday)

[previous] Yesterday, Nigel the Charity Pig joined me and my pal Bonnie at the Stratford Festival of Food: What you see there are the remains of a rabbit, venison, and pheasant pie — no pigs were harmed in the making of it. (Nigel remained safely in my bag while we sampled all the many delicious … more…

meet Nigel, our English hitchhiker

We picked up Nigel in a Welcome Break rest area off the M40 when we arrived in England on Wednesday. He was sitting there all forlorn at the register when I went to pay for my coffee, surrounded by a bunch of stuffed frogs, who are — as everyone knows — absolutely the worst conversationalists, … more…

cooties alert for the Oscars!

Plus: female chauvinist pigs and creepy old guys drooling over young women (and somehow forgetting to drool over young men). Yes, it’s this week’s installment of The Week in Women, over at the Alliance of Women Film Journalists. Enjoy.

off to England again

I’m heading off to Stratford-upon-Avon again for a reprise of the trip I took this same time last year. I leave on Tuesday night, arrive Wednesday morning, and return back to New York on Sunday, October 4. Last year’s trip was such a blast that my travel buddy Bonnie and I decided to do it … more…
