Creation (review)

This gentle movie is about science as a human endeavor, as noble and contradictory and sometimes as wrenching a thing as making great art or journeying to unknown lands.

poster convergence: ‘Legion’ and ‘Tooth Fairy’

Two movies opening on the same day (in North America, at least), and both feature fantastical winged creatures. Coincidence… or magical intervention? In these desperate times, when change we can believe in seems far away and hope is waning, can we at least count on our flying imaginary friends for comfort? Shall we embrace the … more…

trailer break: ‘The Young Victoria’

Take a break from work: watch a trailer… Romance! Intrigue! Royalty! Politics! Assassination! Ruffles! Sideburns! What’s not to love? Gentlemen Broncos (opens in the U.S. on October 30; no U.K. release date has been announced) looks to be a hoot… and I do really like Jared Hess’s … more…

my week at the movies: nothing

I’m in England. I’m too busy sitting in pubs and flirting with bartenders with cute accents to go to the movies. Although… I might try to see either Creation or Dorian Gray, which are new in theaters here. You’ll hear about that if I do.

trailer break: ‘Creation’

Take a break from work: watch a trailer… I’m so looking forward to seeing this movie, and it looks like I’ll get my chance: the film has finally been picked up for U.S. distribution by Newmarket Films, after a period during which no one would touch it. As the Telegraph explained back on September 11: … more…
