trailer break: ‘Bolt’

Take a break from work: watch a movie trailer...

What was that movie with the dog and the cat on a crosscountry road trip to search for something or other? Milo and Otis? Yeah, that’s it. That’s what I think of when I see this trailer. Oh, and Bill Murray warning us about dogs and cats living together -- that too.

I’m not getting my hopes up too much for this, but I will reiterate, though: the hamster is gonna kill me. (I’ll be very disappointed if he doesn’t.) I’m guessing the pigeons -- which remind me of the Animaniac characters the Goodfeathers -- will not make more than a cameo appearance, but the hamster, whose name is Rhino, looks to be a major feature. “I’ll go get my ball”? Awesome. Any rodent that can giggle maniacally is okay with me.

Bolt opens wide in the U.S. on November 21, and in the U.K. on February 13, 2009.

It was originally called "The Incredible Journey". Then it became "Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey". Then there's "Homeward Bound II: Lost in San Francisco". I'd forgotten about "Milo and Otis". There's probably more.

Disney et. al. revive this reliable old plot device every so often, careful to space the movies out enough to ensure that the present batch of kids is too young to have seen the previous iteration. The third wheel changes. This time it's a hamster. Another time it was a puppy.

Oh good, it's not just me! I've been wondering if there's going to be a more overt homage in the actual movie than there's been in the trailers.
