FlickFilosopher all over the worldI’ve been playing around with the traffic-monitoring service SiteMeter, using it to track traffic here and attempt to figure out what I’m doing right, what I’m doing wrong, and see if maybe I can boost traffic somehow. One of the neat features it offers is a visual representation of where on the planet site visitors are coming from. Which is extremely cool:
The red dot is the most recent visitor as of the moment this image was created (which was just a few minutes ago), the green dots are the 10 most recent visitors before that, and the white dots are the 500 visitors before them. With the level of traffic here, that’s about the last two hours worth of traffic. (That’s traffic as SiteMeter is measuring it, which doesn’t agree with the numbers either Google Analytics or my Web host come up with. Which is a good reason to have more than one way to measure traffic at work.) I’ve often wondered whether anybody at Antarctica is reading FlickFilosopher, but there don’t seem to be dedicated IP addresses for the continent. If you’re reading this down there on the ice, though, drop a comment here to let me know. That would be cool in more ways than one. Just thought this’d be neat to share. If I'm reading this correctly, you've got quite an audience in Greenland!

Hmm, seems you've got a better following in the South then I might have expected. Just goes to show that we're not all rednecks and religious nuts...

This is pretty neat. What do the different colors mean?

In the interests of science, you could try sampling every 8 hours for a weekday day and a weekend day. I'd be willing to bet that your usage patterns will change by time of day and day of the week.
Of course, that would be geeky ...

DUDE! That map is my absolute favorite thing to look at on sitemeter! I love looking at the maps and seeing how often I can get visitors from each continent at a time.
I hear you on Antarctica, though. I've been waiting for someone down under to visit...I keep telling myself if they're down there, they're probably there to do important things, not read my content.
Oh! My other favorite thing to look at? The search phrases. You would not believe how many people look up "the french word for gold."

The white dot in Brisbane qualifies for that ;-).

Or I could just READ THE WHOLE ARTICLE before asking a question.
You may all now point and laugh at me, if you aren't already.

Montreal, Canada.
and I think that the time zones would have an enormous effect on the Map.
Very interesting. Thanks/Merci :)

According to the map, you need to visit:
Italy
Czech Republic
Germany
Barcelona
and the Canary Islands
Oh and you've got to visit them with Clive Owen as your towel boy. Or whichever Doctor you're geeking on at the moment.

One of the niftiest features of FanFiction.net is that they let you see where in the world the people are who are reading your stories. Just tickles the bejabers out of me to think that people in Croatia, Hong Kong, Poland, Sweden, China, the United Arab Emirates, Brazil, Norway, etc etc, are reading my little Doctor Who stories!
*ahem--my screen name (above) is linked to the current story, The Regeneration Experiment--close ahem*

^^ FF.net does that now? I haven't logged on for quite a while. I must check that out.

I admire that one reader who seems to be somewhere off the coast of North Africa. Read MaryAnn's new reviews first, then worry about drowning.

Totally off-topic, but not entirely unrelated: I just saw The Princess Bride with the kids and had a great time. The other day I saw the DVD for a mere three bucks, so I went out and bought it, due only to the fact that you, MaryAnn, are always raving about it. Thanks! I am so glad I found your site, donkey's years ago. You have given me so many good movie ideas. Just wanted to let you know.
