question of the day: What actors have you been surprised to discover were a different nationality than you’d believed?

BBC America is having fun with a new feature at its blog Anglophenia: Secretly British, in which it “outs” actors you may have been under the misconception were American. (Recent post: “Warning: John Barrowman Is… Secretly British.”) I think lots of American viewers of House were stunned to discover that Hugh Laurie is not American (though his true fans, like from back in the Bit of Fry and Laurie and Jeeves and Wooster days knew otherwise).
I’m reminded, too, of the category on MTV’s long-ago quiz show Remote Control, “Dead or Canadian,” in which the joke was that some unexpected people were actually from north of the border.

And here at FlickFilosopher.com, I just the other day outed Lee Pace, who is secretly American.

Secretly British is tongue in cheek, of course: no one is actually hiding their nationality. But sometimes we’re surprised anyway.

What actors have you been surprised to discover were a different nationality than you’d believed?
