I need to watch this episode again. The thing I was confused most about was –

Ben said he had a man on the boat, which means that communication was possible between the island and the boat before Charlie threw the switch in the Looking Glass. After that happened, Ben was captured and so he couldn’t have communicated. So was he lying all along about communications being down? Did he somehow have his own signal working but had blocked the rest of the island’s?

I think Ben has had his own methods of communicating with the outside world all along.
