‘Doctor Who’ thing of the day: steampunk K9

The British Library is running an exhibition at the moment called Out of This World, a retrospective on science fiction. It does not, alas, have much new to say to anyone who is already familiar with the genre, though it is always nice to see some really old books, no matter what genre they’re from. Tucked in among the exhibit are a few nonbook items, including this steampunk K9, representing this newish subgenre of SF rather than Doctor Who per se:

Because one can compare and contrast with the “real” K9, however, this K9 does serve to illustrate the particular qualities of steampunk that distinguish it from mainstream SF.

Steampunk K9 by artist James Richardson-Brown. See more of his work at Sydeian Creations, including another steampunk K9.
