obvious troll is obvious

I just deleted a bunch of powerfully trollish comments from the Tree of Life comments threads. I’m finding myself somewhat less tolerant toward these people lately.

I’m trying to take it as some sort of perverse compliment that one commenter appears to have made it his life’s work — or at least a serious hobby — to harass me and my readers.
Just so it’s clear, I’ve got no problem with commenters who disagree with me, or with other commenters. Even passionate disagreement is fine. I merely insist that everyone remain civil and join the conversation only in the spirit of, you know, spirited conversation, and not to antagonize or annoy other commenters, or me.

Trolls are like porn, or art: tough to define in concrete terms, but I know it when I see it. If you see it, feel free to flag such comments: Just let your pointer hover over the comment content, and you’ll see a “flag” link at the bottom left of the comment.
