things you need to know: Page Three models and reality-TV stars are at home at Oxford University

Katie Price

The Oxford Union is the world’s most prestigious debating society, with an unparalleled reputation for bringing international guests and speakers to Oxford. We know this because the Oxford Union tells us so:

The Union is the world’s most prestigious debating society, with an unparalleled reputation for bringing international guests and speakers to Oxford. It has been established for 186 years, aiming to promote debate and discussion not just in Oxford University, but across the globe.

Who better to address the Oxford Union and promote global discussion but Katie Price, topless model, lip-synching pop singer, reality-TV star, and author of four autobiographies? The woman who once proudly stated “I’m famous for my tits” addressed an audience of 1,000 last week, according to BBC News, which reports that Price — whose name graces the covers of several ghost-written novels — spoke of the need for “tighter regulations on the media.”
What global discussions did Price promote? According to Now:

Katie Price turned up to address the Oxford Union yesterday and couldn’t resist flirting with a hot rugby player.

‘Who has been your best lover?’ Classics student Alex McDonald, 21, asked Katie, 33.

‘It could be you. You look really fit up there, buff. I bet you’re too young for me,’ Katie replied.

The model-turned-businesswoman, who wore skintight black trousers for the occasion, challenged the boys in the crowd to come up on stage and strip off, so she could give a really accurate description of her ideal guy.

Glad to see the prestige of Oxford University is able to endure — and thrive, even — in our glossy shallow modern culture. Hoorah for the Union sticking to its mission, difficult as it must be in the 2010s.
