question of the day: Does it matter if celebrities endorse politicians?

I saw this headline the other day at CBS News’ Celebrity Circuit:

Is Nicki Minaj a Romney supporter?

And I thought: Who the hell cares?

There was this recently, too:

Clint Eastwood chair

We all had a good chuckle over Clint Eastwood holding a conversation with an empty chair, but was the moment worth anything more than that?

Here, President Barack Obama confers with George Clooney at the 2009 Handsome Man summit:

George Clooney Barack Obama

Does it matter if celebrities endorse politicians? Have any voters ever decided whom to vote for based upon which celebs candidates hang out with? (On second thought, don’t answer that — I suspect the answer is too depressing. No, okay, go ahead and tell me.)
