I presume “silver mousetrap” is some sort of euphemism. I can’t see people paying good money for mousetraps made of precious metals… (In the City.)

Yes, as a matter of fact when ladies had elaborate wigs and had to sleep very still with their heads  in a certain position they had limited movement so placed mousetraps around the wig to stop rodents making nests!
