Doctor Who thing of the day: Lenny Henry spoofs Doctor Who in 1985

Oh, it’s so easy to make fun of Doctor Who, isn’t it?

I call bullshit on this. Cybermen do not run.

Tribes of unemployed in 2010? That’s totally accurate, of course.

Thanks to Patrick for the heads-up.

MaryAnn,

Have you ever seen the Lenny Henry series, Chef! from the 90s?  It ran three seasons–the last season is crap, but the first two are incredibly wry bits of comedic fun.

I think I saw a bit here and there — nothing that made me want to see more.

The first season of Chef was sharp as a razor, the last season was an embarrassment of dumb.  I can only assume that whoever acted as the driving intelligence of the show had been fired, promoted, or passed on.

And if it is easy to laugh at, Lenny Henry will be there.

The subtlest gag in this parody is that Lenny Henry is dressed as Rupert Bear. Though presciently with a coat somewhat reminiscent of Nine’s.

Which doctor who should I watch? Which one is better? Why? Teach me!

I don’t know-annoying assistant;the Doctor in a ridiculous costume;bad editing;pointless use of a classic monster;ham-fisted political satire-this could almost be Docor Who in the mid to late 1980s. The real thing was probably funnier, though..
