Several inches of snow on the ground in South London this afternoon… more than the city usually gets. (In Morden.)

Hmph. Back here in the U.S., we only got several lousy inches Thursday night, and it all melted away by Friday afternoon.
Ditto in Richmond VA, USA
I’m happy for you, but having just suffered through almost a whole week of snow days (starting with 6 inches of snow on Tuesday) and all the traffic chaos that comes with it, I’m frankly snowed out for 2013.
This would have been much nicer during the holiday season when it wouldn’t have doubled or tripled my commute time!
At least the cold has awoken what we Dutch call “Elfstedentochkoorts” (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elfstedentocht) which could basically shut down The Netherlands should this weather hold long enough for the event to be held this year.
A few miles west of London, it got up to about four inches, but it’s melting this morning. So much for the promise of continuous snow until Sunday night, and no thaw for a week…
so far, here in NYC… no snow in 2013… i could use a snow day… not that they’re easy to come by. a blizzard is required for that in NYC. and i guess i don’t want a blizzard. i think.
If you happen to see any sentient snowmen, please call The Doctor at 11-1-555-5555.
There was much less snow on the ground in North London (Wood Green) when I moved yesterday. But it’s snowing here again and accumulating — could be a couple of inches before it’s done. This would be nothing in NYC, but people here are freaking out a little. No one knows how to drive on the snow, at least in London (I presume up north and in Scotland they’re more used to it), and they don’t really have the equipment to clear the roads. I suspect London is going to have to invest in the equipment, because colder, snowier winters for Western Europe are, ironically, a likely impact of global warming.
