OFCS announces 17th annual Award nominees

The Online Film Critics Society — of which I am a member — has announced nominees for its 17th annual Awards.

The Best Picture nominees are:

12 Years a Slave
American Hustle
Before Midnight
Blue Is the Warmest Color
Drug War
Inside Llewyn Davis
Short Term 12
The Wind Rises

Click over to ofcs.org for the full list of nominees.

Winners will be announced next week.

There’s a lot of overlap here with the AWFJ award nominees, but there are even more films I still need to see before I can vote. I need more hours in the day and more days in the week…

At least the AWFJ had the guts not to list Blue for Best Film (though it turns up in some of their minor awards). I think Slave is going to be on everyone’s shortlist, because not putting it there would look insensitive, but judging by people’s reactions to the gut-punch of it I bet it doesn’t actually win much. (Like Ciudade de Deus, it doesn’t seem to be in any way a comfortable experience.)
