Edge of Tomorrow trailer: welcome to yesterday?

The title is terrible: it’s so generic, and wasn’t there a TV soap called Edge of Tomorrow years back? (It was two soap operas, in fact: Search for Tomorrow and The Edge of Night.) And I keep wanting to call it Welcome to Yesterday, which also would appear to apply.

So: It’s Groundhog Day meets Starship Troopers. I am hopeful because it’s from director Doug Liman, whose The Bourne Identity and Mr. & Mrs. Smith are fab action movies.

Also, my boyfriend Bill Paxton is in this, according to the IMDb.

I’m attending a footage reveal tomorrow morning, which won’t be embargoed, so I’ll have some more to say asap afterward.

The Japanese manga this movie is based off of is called “All You Need Is Kill” … which is also an awful title but in a different way.

Still, looks fun. I’m excited. Although I liked Oblivion, so I’m probably in the minority.

To be fair, “All You Need Is Kill” is at least memorable.

Doug Liman makes badass action movies, that’s all there is to it. His direction even elevated the poorly-scripted Jumper to ‘worth watching” status.

And I just discovered while googling him that he directed Fair Game with Sean Penn and Naomi Watts, about the Valerie Plame scandal? Fascinating… now to wait for it to show up on Netflix Instant.

Fair Game is worth a look, but it’s not an action movie.

Looks potentially interesting, but darn it, Tom Cruise’s face these days just puts me off. Sometimes (MI4) I can get past it, but usually not.
