French filmmaker Eléonore Pourriat is on it, with her short “Oppressed Majority”:
And what if women filmmakers treated male subjects — even the ones they’re sympathetic to — the way male filmmakers treat female subjects?
Uh huh.
The lead actor here, Pierre Bénézit, is fantastic:
If you think this is horrifying… you should.
Stuff like this is why we need more women making movies.
I loved this piece. I especially like that they didn’t go for cheap, easy shocks and jokes. For example, some people might have made the guy get attacked by a woman who was *gasp* ugly! This made it clear that such assaults are not enjoyable no matter what the person looks like. I didn’t like that the guy complained at the end about living in a “feminist” society, as it feeds the myth that feminism is about female supremacy. I would have stuck with the word “sexist,” and compare it to “masculism,” which makes sense in this context.
It might just be a bad translation.
Brilliant.
