I’ve been living in London for more than three years now, and I’m in Leicester Square all the time, and I have never noticed this statue of Charlie Chaplin before.
Maybe it’s new…

When we first went to London in 1993 (coming home to the “storm of the century” on the east coast), we stood in line for half price tickets in Leicester Square. Since one stands around and gawks at the vicinity while waiting, we saw the famous statue.
Ever see the guy way up high and the big lions near him…..?

Yes, I’ve seen the guy way up high. Wiseass. :->
A reader on my post about this on Facebook pointed out that the statue had been removed for refurbishment and only was back in public again recently.
