a couple of things for those of you feeling the lack of Game of Thrones

In Auckland, they erected a statue of King Joffrey Baratheon, Lord of the Seven Kingdoms, Protector of the Realm, just so they could pull it down:

Here’s one fan’s perspective on the big moment:

And via Tor.com, the entire history of Westeros explained via 16 maps that are, according to Tor.com, “pretty bad-ass and… totally spoiler-free.” The first:

(Click here for the full-size version.)

They’re by Reddit user HotbrownDoubleDouble, and they can be found at imgur. (The Tor post links only to the first nine maps — reader PJK found the link for all 16 in the comments there.)

Thanks to bronxbee, PJK, and MAJ from me – I just started watching the thing and haven’t read the books, so the backdrop is mucho interesting.

    FYI re: the maps.

There have been some complaints by other ASoIaF nerds that some of the details in the maps are either inaccurate (i.e. contradicted by references from the texts) or speculative (i.e. no details exist in the texts). I don’t have a readily available breakdown of where the problems actually are, tho.
