a few thoughts about Game of Thrones S05 E05 (“Kill the Boy”) and open thread

I’m not gonna have time to blog in-depth about the new series of Game of Thrones, but I’m posting a few thoughts after each new episode. Please feel free to talk among yourselves about whatever is happening. (And of course I’ll jump into the comments as much as I’m able.)

Until I say otherwise, take it as a given that I love this show for its complex story and its fascinating characters. That’s the baseline that I’m working from.

Things that popped to mind this episode:

1) Is Brienne looking at Jabba’s palace off in the distance?

Ah, I guess not:

But that would have been interesting, no?

2) Jon Snow making peace with the Wildlings begs the question, How did they not get included in the Realms of Men worth protecting in the first place?

3) Is it too much to hope that Ramsay Bolton is going to die a horrible, lingering, nasty death? For Sansa’s sake, if not also for the sheer pleasure of it…

4) Some heartstopping moments for Tyrion in this episode. Do we think he caught a touch of the grayscale, too?

At least he enjoyed some sightseeing beforehand…

That is some pretty impressive sightseeing, for sure.

Yesterday I was looking at a TV website that had a slideshow of 100 characters ranked from good to evil – with gradations of “not evil” and “not good” in the middle. Hodor got the top “good” spot, but to my satisfaction, Ramsay got the top “evil” spot. I’ll actually be okay with Sansa marrying him as long as he does indeed die a terrible death, almost immediately. Somebody taking a lesson from Joffrey’s wedding death, only worse.

Plenty to say about Game of Thrones of course, but speaking of sightseeing, this show is one of those that constantly makes me amazed at what they can do with cameras and computers these days. Everything in GoT looks so darned amazing. E.g. Drogon in last week’s episode. Not that I’m any expert on dragons – unlike, say, my 10-year-old nephew – but I was sold.
