It’s not intentional. I’m so behind on reviews, but I’m in a little slump where it’s hard to get motivated. I can’t even blame horrible summer weather. I don’t do hot and sticky well, it totally saps all my energy. But it’s been mostly gorgeous, sunny and breezy and cool, almost autumnal, here in London lately.
I really could use a very long, very real break. I don’t see that in cards soon. But I may have to figure something out.
Or most likely my motivation will snap back in the next day or two.
Although with Pixels and Hot Pursuit on the short list to watch and review, that could be a problem…

It’s August. The August movies would dispirit almost anyone.
Not yet! Don’t be pushing time along faster than it needs to. Geez,
That’s part of it. But there are some great films that I’ve seen and haven’t reviewed yet, too. :-(
Suggestion: For all the films you want to, but haven’t reviewed — just give them a one-setencer (like what you’ve done with some other movies) BUT, at the same time, keep your notes and do the reviews in the future.
Also, go for Hot Pursuit. It’s mercifully shorter and devoid of Adam Sandler — who knows, you might enjoy. And if you don’t enjoy, it’ll probably infuriate you enough to reinvigorate your passion for writing derisive reviews. Let me know when you decide.
Pretty good advice, MaryAnn. We’d be good with that.
As for a long, real break, don’t wait until it’s a have-to, like kidney stone. (To use a recent reference – just off the top of my head.)
Yes, well, that is something I’m worried about. (Just in the abstract. I’m fine.)
If I don’t write a review now, it’s likely I won’t get to it in the future. Unless they stop making new movies!
Much as I appreciate it when you write stuff, taking a bit of time away sometimes is a necessity in any sort of job.
Just make sure your good and bad movies are proportional. For every Inside Out, watch a Pixels. Also, think of some as MST3K-like experiences.
I fear MaryAnn has to watch a lot more bad films than good ones.
And lowering one’s standards doesn’t necessarily help.
Those *are* good strategies, but, I suspect she already does that. (given the number of complete crap films that are out there)
Me, I understand where she’s coming from with wanting a long break. Sometimes, we just need a rest.
I know. If you need a break, go ahead and take one.
It’s not really the movies. It’s the feeling that I’m getting nowhere with any of this.
Well you are. Take a break if you need.
