London photos: London mourns David Bowie

bowiemural1

So there’s a mural of David Bowie in Brixton, in South London, around the corner from where he was born and lived as a child, and naturally it has become a shrine tonight.

Obviously many people — including lots of press — had the same idea I had tonight, to visit the mural.

And in Soho, off Regent Street in Central London, the location where the cover photo for the Ziggy Stardust album was shot has also become a magnet for fans and media:

This is that cover:

It clearly wasn’t the street of swanky restaurants and bars that it is today.

Seconded. I hadn’t thought of this, it’s really cool. You don’t get that sort of thing in Dallas.

The entire crowd apparently started singing Bowie songs together, which is the best possible tribute they could have given him.

There was a hastily organized street party in Brixton last night in honor of Bowie. The singing wasn’t *quite* spontaneous.
