how does eliminating participation “enhance our customer experience”?
I don’t know, sometimes I like to go to 4chan to toss a rock into the abyss. Did you know they use terms like Patrician unironically over there? It’s utterly bizarre.

Were they ever “a positive, useful experience”?
I registered an account there some years ago because I wanted to submit some errata, and suddenly found I could see the forums. And promptly logged out again.
while i might agree trolls and just plain idiots don’t enhance an experience, it was the expression that seemed rather weasel wordy… do people go on forums or on a site like IMDB (or this one) to *not* post comments?
In the case of the IMDb, it never occurred to me that one might want to post comments until I happened to see that the forums existed. I can see them being useful with some small film that hardly anyone knows about, but when it’s something with ticket sales in the millions?

The same way banning trolls enhances this site.
Although I do enjoy silly banter, most of the trolling I’ve seen on this site is essentially just formulaic trash.
Have you ever read any of the forums over there? They are a cesspit.

Well, you could always go to /tv/
don’t actually…
So were the IMDB forums basically 4chan?
