It’s Thanksgiving weekend in the US, and I’ve been recommending some appropriately themed flicks this week. Apologies to my non-American readers, but I make this promise: I won’t share any turkeys, and all the films will have more going for them than just a big dinner.

Yes, of course, 1947’s Miracle on 34th Street is a Christmas movie. But it’s also a Thanksgiving movie, because it opens during the turkey-day parade sponsored by the NYC department store Macy’s, which always ends with the arrival of Santa Claus at the tail end of the procession.

Many a New Yorker — and I am one of them — believes that the Christmas season does not start till this particular appearance by Santa. I don’t make the rules, but in this case, I enforce them: No Christmas anything till after the Macy’s parade wraps up, then you can let ’er rip.

Which makes this the perfect movie to end my mini Thanksgiving season on. Cuz Yuletide is now officially on.
