Jane Eyre (1943) (retro trailer)

The Mia Wasikowska-Michael Fassbender Jane Eyre is finally arriving in the U.K. in September, and between that and the new play We Are Three Sisters by Blake Morrison and filmmaker Andrea Arnold’s new take on Wuthering Heights coming in November, there’s a bit of Bronte fever happening here.

Nothing new, really, though: Look how this trailer promotes the 1943 Orson Welles-Joan Fontaine adaptation of Charlotte Bronte’s novel by basically saying, “You’ve read the book, haven’t you? You haven’t? For shame! Everyone else has read the book! Get with the program! (Then go see the movie.)”
