I don’t think the Hollywood honchos will get the message about female directors until one makes a phenomenally successful movie. I’m not talking about something like “Twilight” or “Kung Fu Panda 2” numbers (which are impressive), but a billion-dollar grossing movie. I think that’s the only way more female directors will be able to get more leverage to do the films they want and get big event movies as well.

I’m not being sexist, but you don’t see Hollywood offering Jennifer Yuh her pick of directing big movies or giving Catherine Hardwicke another shot at directing a franchise movie. It’s sad, seeing potentially promising directors getting passed up on bigger things because of their gender.

I’m sure there are women who can make films as brainless and pandering as what Michael Bay comes up with. Would that really be a good thing? Look at the fallout from Bridesmaids
