But this is a wonderfully ironic kick in the ass for a writer at HuffPOS (as I like to call it).
Allie Compton thought she had found the perfect little adorable studio — with a garden! — in Brooklyn. But she was turned down as a tenant because, she was told:
“Your job is too shaky.”
“Media is a low-paying industry.”
(If a landlord in NYC thinks you might not be able to pay the rent, they don’t have to rent to you, and it’s not anything like illegal discrimination.)
Mind you, she shares this complaint on a site THAT DOES NOT PAY THE VAST MAJORITY OF ITS WRITERS.
Sorry to shout. Huffington Post enrages me.
Even if she is one of the rare contributors to HuffPOS who does get paid, she is a direct contributor to the culture that has devalued the work of writers.
Payback can be a bitch.

At least legitimate news outlets like the CS Monitor pay their staff. I knew there was a reason I avoid HuffPost.
HuffPOS has a small paid staff. But most of its writers are not on staff and are not paid.
I meant CS Monitor pays most, if not all, of their contributors. And it lacks the sensationalism of HuffPo.
They are paid with ‘experience’ and ‘exposure’!! It’s better than money!
Yes, I apprenticed alongside the finest sideboob trackers on Earth! TMZ here I come!!
And when someone writes a comment correcting the writer or, worse yet, contradicts, it does not get printed
You mean at HuffPo?
Like when people dare to contradict Nikki Finke or Mike Fleming on Deadline Hollywood’s blog. Any comment that criticizes them (or more precisely, points out that their rivals outscooped ’em a few minutes ago) gets deleted.
HuffPo and Deadline “TOLDJA” Hollywood can bite the big one, as far as I’m concerned.
