Well, the ripoff sexy vampire movies were kind of a flop, so we jumped on the other trend…
Not as big a flop as the ripoff sexy werewolf movies.
You think that’s bad – I got a warehouse full of sexy kraken movies out here. I just can’t shift ’em!
Surrender your warehouse to Zoidberg.
I enjoyed the City of Bones books. Don’t know if I really want to see the movies though.
Huh? A bazillion comic book superhero films or a gazillion Star Wars movies: good. But a stream of young adult fantasy films: bad?
The only thing that Hollywood loves more than creativity is trying to stifle creativity by pushing out a horde of copies and knock-offs, some good, some horrible.
Says who?
RE: Says who?
Well, some of the comic book fans are happy with Marvel’s plans to unleash more of their heroes onto the big screen. And at first Star Wars fans and others were happy that JJ Abrams was now going to renew the franchise. I admit that there are some mixed feelings over Disney’s plans to seemingly have an “all Star Wars all the time” schedule of films and possible TV shows. But even here, there are fans who say “bring it on!”
Either way, the studios will probably over saturate the market until filmgoers cry “Enough!”
And hopefully, there will be at least a few good films in the pile. Until the next mountain of zombie vampire movies.
You seemed to be implied that *I’d* said superheroes/comics good but YA fantasy bad. You seemed to be implying that I was being hypocritical.
If I misread you, I apologize.
Oh, no. I did not mean in any way to imply that you thought that way.
Sorry for any confusion on this point.
Can’t watch this out of principal. The author of these books is a known plagiarist: http://www.fanpop.com/clubs/mortal-instruments/articles/100275/title/cassandra-claires-plagiarism
And: http://alli6.tumblr.com/post/47193982199/cassandra-clare-and-things-you-probably-dont-know-but
First, plagiarizing someone else’s fan fiction for your own fan fiction might be the most pathetic concept I’ve ever come across.
Second: Clearly, I have chosen the wrong life path for myself. I should have been turning my Doctor Who fanfic into barely disguised “original” fiction, and started cashing checks.
*quits Flick Filosopher, starts writing quickie sci-fantasy*
Isn’t that how Fifty Shades of Grey started out as well? As Twilight fanfic?
Yup, but it had the serial numbers filed off a bit more effectively.
Clare is a little different. She ripped off other fanfiction writers, which is pathetic enough as it is. If you get into what she’s published, there are direct rip-offs of lines and jokes, particularly from the Buffy TV show.
