This is what The Expendables hath wrought. Now we’ve got 70-year-old guys thinking they’re plausible as the toughest alpha-male badasses among the worst guys on the planet.
This is from director Mikael Håfström, who made the terrible The Rite but also the underappreciated Derailed, so while cheese is probably guaranteed, this could be good cheese.
There seems to be a lot of men in captivity “porn” this fall. I went to see a movie recently and three of the previews I saw dealt with themes of men in captivity (this one, Out of the Furnace (more of a subplot) and a movie whose title I’ve already forgotten, but a guy is locked away by a company for 20 years).

The Last Stand and Bullet to the Head were both comprehensive failures at the box office, whereas Expendables 1 and 2 weren’t. Maybe the lesson learned is that you need at least two seventy-year-old guys…
