But this didn’t “rock a nation”. It’s already been forgotten by most. and it probably went on in lots of other court rooms and still goes on.

Yeah, that’s a problem. As with all the other problems that don’t involve reality TV stars: mostly no one gives a shit.
That’s the first-order problem. The second-order problem is prison owners lobbying for laws that produce higher rates of imprisonment.
