It’s the usual tale: boy meets girl, boy likes girl, boy pretends he suffers from a debilitating chronic syndrome in order to hang out with girl (she works as a hospital therapist for disease management), boy loses girl, and, well, you can guess the rest. Even grading on the Implausible Romantic Comedy curve, this trite and nonchalantly indifferent film is forced and so lacking in any kind of romance that it’s a trial to endure. A spirited cast might have rendered this watchable, but, alas, newcomers Heidi Fellner and Ron Menzel in the lead roles are neither comfortable enough on camera nor with each other to pull it off. Extras include commentary by director and cowriter Tim VandeSteeg, behind-the-scenes footage, and more. [buy at Amazon]
