I’ve been waiting for it all: The transporter. The easy interstellar travel on a luxurious starship. The end of poverty and the money economy. The fully functional positronic androids who like cats. The sex with hot aliens with funny noses.

And today, a little part of my dream came true. Apple announced the iPad.

Ah the Holodeck, which I’m sure will appear in alien anthropological glossaries as “the last invention of the now-extinct homo sapien“. :)

Sorry, but the automatic doors in the real world don’t make the right sound to be Star Trek doors. Which is why I always try to time that subtle Jedi hand gesture at just the right moment as I approach them, so it’s as if I used The Force to open them.

Yeah, it’s geeky, but cheaper than owning a closet full of unopened action figures in the original packages.

I just glare at the door (or the sensor), so it’s like the door opens because it knows what’s good for it.

I’m still waiting for giant screens like that which can roll up or shrink down into the size of a makeup compact or keychain or something.

But I have to admit that every new generation of smartphone makes me think more and more of the ones they had in Earth: Final Conflict. …Especially when I’m using mine to record notes in class by taking pictures and video of the whiteboard.

The iPad makes me think of what happened to the nose at the end of Woody Allen’s “Sleeper.” Looks like an iPhone got tossed under a streamroller and it ended up flattened out larger.
