trailer break: ‘The Secret of Kells’

Take a break from work: watch a trailer…

This looks beautiful. I can’t wait to see it. Also: Some aspects of Celtic mythology remain woefully unexplored in pop culture. I’m happy to see that righted, even if only a little.

The Secret of Kells opens in limited release in Canada on February 26, and in limited release in the U.S. on March 2; no U.K. release date has been announced.

That does look gorgeous! My family and I are seeing it this weekend, at the New York International Children’s Film Festival. Now I’m psyched.

Just saw this yesterday, and I think it’s an absolute masterpiece. I’ve seen a couple of the other nominees for Best Animated Feature–Up and Coraline–and while I thought those films were great, this one deserves the award, IMO. I’m looking forward to your review.

Also: kids are so smart. There was a Q&A with the director after the screening, and most of the questioners were kids. The first one, who couldn’t have been more than seven or eight, asked something like: “The film had a really great look; what made you pick that look, and what inspired the story?”

I have faith in the future. :-)

I’ve been looking forward to this one for a long time. The company I worked for did some work with Cartoon Saloon in Ireland on Skunk-Fu, so we got wind of this movie during production. These guys were already pushing Flash-based animation to new heights for television production, so I’m dying to see what they did with it for the big screen. :)

You won’t be disappointed.

But it’s not just the look; it’s the story, the pacing, the characters, the gorgeous music. It all works.

See it see it see it!
