Somehow I don’t think that undeliverable letters become the individual journey of whatever letter carrier happens to come across them. I believe that could be considered a federal crime, actually, to interfere with mail, even if it is undeliverable. Just goes to show how anti-Christian the federal government is. Bastards.
I bet there isn’t single character in this film who explains to Maddy, who doesn’t agree with God’s will, that her life might get a whole lot more pleasant if she stopped believing in such a disagreeable deity. She should try the Flying Spaghetti Monster, who doesn’t give kids cancer.
The film, which opens today, has garnered a few reviews at Rotten Tomatoes (not enough to have a Freshness score, though all the reviews so far are rotten), but obviously it was not screened for most critics. It appears to be one of those self-distributed multiplex sermons for church groups to flock to, not so much a movie per se. It’ll probably do pretty well at the box office, too. So as an alternative to the typical studio film, this is interesting from a business perspective. But only from that perspective, if the trailer is a fair measure of the film.
Letters to God opens in the U.S. today; no Canadian or U.K. release dates have been announced.

Yeah, I’m pretty sure it’s illegal for the mail carrier to be opening that kids mail. But it’s gods plan, so that makes it ok. Not.

Because the first I heard of it was in a TV ad for the film last night. I certainly wasn’t invited to a screening.
I once read a Christian novel in which the plot hinged on the delievery of a letter, so you had this weirdly amusing bit in which a devil and an angel are fighting in the back room of a post office over whether or not the letter would get lost. I mean physically fighting, not arguing.
In case you are wondering, the main plot concerned a shoe-string budget Christian school under threat by a well endowed liberal government conspiracy to force their kids to go to public school. In a related issue, the Christian school headmaster had performed an exorcism on a student, which the liberals thought was child abuse because they don’t believe in God so obviously don’t believe in devils either. I think the title was “Piercing the Darkness” but don’t quote me on that.
