Fooled ya: this is the “trailer” for the fake film-within-the-film in Inglourious Basterds. It’s meant to have been directed by Joseph Goebbels, the Nazi minister for propaganda, but actually it’s directed by Eli Roth, who made the low-budget Cabin Fever and then helped invent torture porn with Hostel.
I love trailers for fake movies — and I guess Tarantino does too: the fake trailers in Grindhouse were even cleverer than the movies themselves (and the movie were pretty damn clever). All filmmakers who love — really love — movies should make fake movies more often.
Nation’s Pride is not a real movie, and will not be opening soon at a theater near you.
Actually, at least half of the fake trailers from Grindhouse are now getting made into real movies, including Eli Roth’s Thanksgiving and Robert Rodriguez’s Machete. This is both surreal and awesome.
