Very much looking forward to this one. I loved Walter Salles’ Motorcycle Diaries, and this has a similar look and feel, so that’s promising. Also: Jack Kerouac.

There’s solid workmanship and an authentic emotional muscle in this movie. I was startled to find myself overwhelmed, eventually, by its ragged charms and its rough-edged vision of female power and pain.
It’s a bit suspicious that New York is not one of the ”select cities” Country Strong is opening in on Wednesday. Don’t they want the New York critics to see it? Maybe they’re afraid we don’t get country music…
The title makes me think of WristStrong, Stephen Colbert’s parody charity movement against wrist violence… and what we know about the film so far seems to imply that being country strong means taking strength from jealousy and substance abuse.
