The Coen Brothers have a new film! Directed and written by them! Always a cause for celebration… and this one, set the in Greenwich Village folk scene in the 1960s, has got hallelujah written all over it. Love the cast: could this be the movie that makes Oscar Isaac the star he deserves to be? And of course Carey Mulligan is a goddess, and John Goodman is amazing, and that’s Garrett Hedlund, who was so great in Country Strong; will he sing here, too?
Can’t wait to find out.
There are no U.S. and U.K. release dates yet, but there are a few European dates currently scheduled for November and December. Given the Coens’ track record, it’s probably safe to guess that this could be an awards contender, which means it could be looking at a U.S. release in September or October, and hopefully not too long after that for the U.K.
Some scene (or two or three) for this was shot on my block, right in front of my building and the two buildings to the west of me. They did make some effort to be done early-ish but that still meant that there were underpaid puppies wrapping up cables at 2 in the morning. That alone makes me not want to see this.
Hmm. Wasn’t there another trailer along these general lines, about six months back? And now I’ve lost track of it completely; don’t think I ever saw a review.
