Spanks the 2016 film and sends it off to the corner to think about what it did. This one is the definite article: Gory, grim, bleakly funny. Full of feverish, anarchic energy and exhausting cynicism.
And I don’t even care. Sad.
I feel like we have finally met Peter Capaldi’s Doctor for the first time. At last.
[This post is not behind the paywall.]
Ah, so that’s my problem with the show lately: it’s a bit too Monty Python.
Adorable. So witty and compassionate and bittersweet and just the right little bit of snarky that you will cry tears of joy from the perfection of it.
So, the Doctor and Robin Hood walk into a spaceship… Oh my god, did I love this episode.
It’s not the Fantastic Voyage ripoff that bothers me here. It’s the ripoff of the wonderful early episode “Dalek.”
We now have Peter Capaldi to save us from Steven Moffat, who I swear is veering into Michael Bay territory…
I am hopeful for Capaldi’s Doctor. He’s a little bit scary here. That’s a good thing.
